Sunfold Status..

Sunfold road report: 3 shows down and all went as good as we could have hoped! We've been playing the small crowds but we've felt the love in as intimate a way as we have in awhile. We all have been having a blast playing Sunfold and we're even getting to cut some teeth on this trip by bringing out some green touring-friends with us. So no complaints here! Tonight we're really amped up to go play at Mercury Lounge, we have a good feeling about it. Then onward to Boston. If you haven't checked out the new record hop on iTunes and take a gander why don't you? Loves

-Sunfold

Toy Tugboats is out today!

Toy Tugboats is out today! Go on iTunes or go dig one out of your local record shop! And if none of your record stores have it tell them they need to order it! It's that easy, and it makes our worlds go round. This album has been years in the making and we would unendingly appreciate it if you could check it out. Sunfold is on an east coast run this week and if you are anywhere near or have friends near the shows in their tourdates- maybe plans ought to be made?

In other news- Annuals played a set at Siren on saturday that has yielded a lot of pictures, videos, and words scattered about the internet. Here's one to pass some time to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLvtNP3QDc0

More soon!

July!

It's July, and that means only one thing! -That if you live in North Carolina you can probably make a sandwich with 2 pieces of bread and some humidity in between. Mmmm- summertime wetness.

Here are some things you should click on:

All Kinds of mess

First of all- tommorow is Kenny Florence's 21st birthday! We're having a party- AND it's going to rule.

Secondly, Annuals go back on tour this Sunday as they head off to Arizona to play with What Laura Says at Modified Arts- if you're in and around the area you can't miss it! It's a redo of one of the bands favorite shows in recent memory. Come cram into that space with us for some fun.

And beyond all of that- we're all getting really excited about the fact that a nice amount of folks have found us worth mentioning over the last couple of weeks..

We can't thank people enough for reading and keeping up with what we're trying to do over here. The last handful of months have been a good stretch for us and our excitement over our first two national releases is just plain snowballing.

We also have a new website underway as well to keep an eye out for! And lastly- as mentioned earlier- Annuals hit the road for about 3 weeks on Sunday. If you live in driving distance of any of these shows please come check them out! We know gas is ridiculous, but Annuals are on a mission to bring good times to different towns and it can only happen if you come out and bounce around with them! They'll see you there?? -

What Laura Says

So we have to go ahead and announce that we have a new branch on the Terpsikhore family tree. They're called What Laura Says- they're from Tempe Arizona- and soon enough everyone will become entranced by their uncanny ability to write beautiful and sometimes spastic pop music. The sound of this band is as haunting as it is endearing- and we know that our first and only signing outside of North Carolina is going to prove it's potency when it hits ears on both coasts this summer. Check out their artist page and go take a gander on myspace- it won't disappoint you to do so! If you live in Arizona we're sure you already know the deal, but they have a nice string of shows coming up all over and around the state. What Laura Says thinks & feels coming sooner than later! Keep checking back in if you'd be so kind..

No Jokes Here

April Fool's has never been at the top of my list for important days. I've never been very good/have ever really desired to pull elaborate or boneheaded pranks on people. But in 2008, April Fool's is one of the bigger days of the year. "Wet Zoo" hits stores today and it marks our first release with our new label and friends at Canvasback music.

"Wet Zoo" is a 5 song EP. It features 3 new/unreleased tracks from Annuals as well as 2 tracks from Sunfold. As many may or may not know Sunfold is our other band lead by Kenny (formerly known as Sedona). We're extremely excited to get to debut our sister project alongside new Annuals material- and working with Canvasback has been nothing but completely great so far.

So if it's not to much to ask- please find a way to get yourself a copy of this new EP. We've been working hard on a lot of new music and this ought to serve as a preview of things to come. Thanks so much for any love or support you've ever thrown our way- we hope you can lend a little more! -Mike R/Terpsikhore/Annuals/Sunfold

Lonnie Walker is home from a nice week long trip up the east coast and back. They will be in the studio and out playing shows through the spring so continue to keep an ear open for them!

Chris Wessels is continuing work on his studio project On Photon. The songs are coming together nicely and you can probably expect some shows to come together for him relatively soon.

A Sunfold music video is underway! Shooting took place over the weekend in downtown Raleigh for the song "Oregon" (song is at www.myspace.com/sunfold)

Annuals/Sunfold split EP "Wet Zoo" comes out in 2 weeks! Maybe you could be our absolute best friends and either pre-order online or maybe even plan to make a trip to/support your local record shop? (a novel idea!)

Annuals will be heading out to Boone to play at Legends Thursday March 27th! Definitely make plans to come out, (even if it means planning a completely awesome trip to the mountains)

First and foremost we have to extend a huge thanks to all of our wonderful neighborly Cackalackians who made it out to our leap year show last Friday. We all had a wonderful time putting the show together and performing and getting to be among friends.
You can check out some awesome photos from the show taken by our great friend and photo-fiend-extraordinaire Brian Vetter here:
Terpsikhore Leap Year Photos

Getting straight into current events- Lonnie Walker (coming off of a victorious performance on leap year) is preparing to head off on a quick tour up to NYC and back at the end of the week. So if you're in the Baltimore/DC/Philly/NYC area(s) please check the tour page and try to make it out to a show! People are certainly starting to catch on about our favorite Greenville weirdos- and we want you to be in the know as well!

We've been holding off on the official announcement- and we technically are still holding off even right now. But it's too important to not mention at all any longer-

Terpsikhore is currently in the process of bringing on a particularly amazing young band out of Arizona- with plans to release a record this summer right around the same time the debut Sunfold LP comes out. This particularly amazing young band is going to be playing several shows at South by Southwest and we want everyone to make sure they get a chance to see them if they plan to be in Austin next week.

You want actual details? Here you go...

www.myspace.com/whatlaurasaysthinksandfeels

Speaking of Sunfold... Sunfold is the new name of the project formerly known as Sedona (aka K-Flo's project). We ran into the classic trademark-hang up, and rather than pay a licensing fee to use the name we've called the band for the last 6 years (???) we decided to take the free-of-cost route. So that left Kenny a whopping 2 days to decide on a new band name before the press release for the upcoming "Wet Zoo" split with Annuals came out. But fortunately we've landed happily on Sunfold as the new name. So hopefully that will clear up some of the confusion bouncing around, particularly with our more long-time appreciators.

And other than that- AB's been hammering away on the new Annuals LP, Mike's going on tour with Lonnie Walker as their whipping boy, Kenny's been recording some tasty Nashville country and playing pedal steel, and we're trying to stay busy and buzzing as much as possible! Plenty to come in 2008!!
Stay in the loop!

So the new year is here. It feels like looking straight up a mountain to me but not climbing isn't an option. So why wouldn't we?

That probably doesn't make as much sense to you as it does to me. Regardless, the house is still buzzing with the Lonnie Walker guys in and out recording their record and the living situation shifting slightly. We're definitely in a state of transition here at the Terpsikhore fortress and the messiness proves it.

But all is well and we're real damn excited for what 2008 may bring. We've made a lot of great new friends in the last couple of years and we plan to make more than ever in this next 12 month stretch. So with respect to brevity I'll just say that we're excited and we think big things are coming. I'll leave you with some pictures of our new years extravaganza at Zach Galifianakis' farm, we hope your new years eve was as fun as ours!

Fine people, Somehow it is now December. Which is just as great as it is suprising and out of nowhere. In North Carolina it basically got cold this week and the trees started shedding everywhere to make up for the (global?) warmth of the last 2 months. We here at the Terpsikhore house just hope the world doesn't end before we can put some good music out.

Speaking of which a young and eager Kenny Florence is in the studio with our pal Ian Schrier right now finishing the Sedona record, which (as you may or may not have known) has been under construction long enough for a couple babies to have been born here and there. So needless to say we're glad its coming together and sounding as good as it does.

Tom Yoder played a relaxed 2 hour set at 3rd Place in Raleigh the other night. It was a great performance as always with Tom and we definately have to thank everyone that made it out to catch part of it. It was a great coffee-filled time! Big thanks to 3rd Place for having us.

We're certainly wrapping up 2007 with a lot of confidence. Things are going better than ever and we've got a nice sleeve-full of tricks to break out in 2008. But before we get to that a nice handful of us are going to be hanging out at the Trekky records christmas show at the Cats Cradle Dec 19th. It has us billed as Annuals, but we'll be a nice mashed up group with cameos from Lonnie Walker and Chris Wessels. So definately come hang out at that show if you're around the Triangle.

Be sure to check back soon for some biggish website updates, we'll be adding on some new features relatively soon as well (forums, streaming music/video). Hope all is well for everyone in the current readership- we hope to see you soon! Happy and safe holidays!

XO

Lonnie Walker shares his thoughts on...

His style of music:
It ranges from punk to old country. Eric is really into the blues, so you hear a lot of that in his solos. I would say that it is a hybrid of all of those different influences. We have been dubbed as "Freak Folk", which is cool and makes sense.

His biggest musical influences:

Talking Heads, Pixies, Hank Williams Sr., Johnny Cash, Gang of Four, T-Rex, Tom Waits

The funniest thing he's seen lately:
I've really enjoyed awkward farts in public lately. For example, while in the theatre during the Omen there was a really serious part and the guy that was sitting next to me shuffled in his seat and I let a goose slip. A woman in the front row said, "I KNOW HE DIDN'T!" It was pretty funny in general, but the crowd reaction made the moment special.

Annuals

Just released "Frelan Mas" - a digital EP of Be He Me B-sides available on iTunes, courtesy of Ace Fu Records.  Currently, Annuals are out on tour having a wonderful time with Canvasback label mates, Manchester Orchestra.  Check back in over the next week for information about upcoming Annuals shows, as the gang makes their way back from the west coast.

Photos on File

The past couple weeks have been rather exciting; “Photos on File” have been relentlessly tracking in the studio for their upcoming EP and long play album. Consisting of Chris Wessels, Ben Field and James Dodgen, Photos on File, will be performing for the Trekky Records Holiday Party at the Cat’s Cradle on the 19th of December.  Check back soon for more dates as Ben and Chris will be performing at upcoming Terpsikhore showcases.

Tom Yoder

Tomfoolery, the follow up album to 2004's Independent Music Award winning "The moment the Apple Falls", is in the final phases of production. Tom just recently finished his last recording session at Osceola, where he had been working his magic alongside his producer of choice, Michael Gardner. Having success in their last two team-ups, we at Terpsikhore found no reason to break up a great thing! The mastering of the album will be completed within the next week at the Kitchen in Carrboro.

Tomfoolery will be available at shows or online in the Terpsikhore Store, as well as your preferred vendor (be it Amazon or iTunes). Check back soon for an official release date along with details about upcoming shows where you can experience Tom's sublime and relaxing finger spun magic.

Terpsikhore

Hello friends, we finally have a home for important Terpsikhore-related information and news! We’ve been trying hard to keep busy around the Terpsikhore house these last few weeks. Annuals played a wonderful free show at the Cat’s Cradle not long ago with our friends at Trekky records, and it couldn’t have gone better! We handed out several hundred free Terpsikhore compilations with the most up-to-date demos for our upcoming projects. If you were unable to attain one of these then keep an eye out for them at any upcoming Terpsikhore events.

Our studio has recently felt the effects of a constant flow of people working, which has been wonderful. The productivity has been fantastic. Sooner than later we’re going to be releasing the first LP from Greenville folk-freaks Lonnie Walker, and if you don’t pick up a copy then we just feel sorry for you. On top of that we’ll have new music from Wessels on the way in early ’08.

Plenty more is being worked on but we’ll just try to keep our excited mouths shut until our various projects come closer to fruition. So as far as websites are concerned- this is ours! You can expect a facelift and a web store in the near future too. No, really you can.
