Kenny Florence may barely be of legal age to buy beer, but he has a clear sonic vision that he portrays through his project Sunfold. Toy Tugboats is the culmination of years of musical discovery and experience, resulting in a diverse blend of jazz, folk, pop, and rock. Sharing the same members as North Carolina’s Annuals, and being the fifth release on the collective’s Terpsikhore label, Sunfold utilize a collective approach to create an expressive, yet comforting narrative in each realm they choose to explore.

Florence’s professional music career stepped up to a new level when he started collaborating with childhood friend Adam Baker, frontman for Annuals. True to themselves and to the chosen collective approach of one band with multiple identities, Sunfold frequently puts in overtime to practice for both bands as they play local shows in North Carolina under each alias. While Annuals is praised for Baker's uncanny pop sensibility combined with his boundless ambition, Florence's approach through Sunfold is more of a controlled and formulaic thought process, deliberately applied to different musical styles.

Besides writing his own music, Florence is the in-house engineer at the Terpsikhore recording studio and the driving force behind the Triangle-based music-theory school, “Tone Zone.” He is currently in the final stages of completing a music theory textbook co-authored with the school’s owner Derek Butler. Sunfold has been captivating audiences across North Carolina and plans are underway to do the same around the US this summer.
